Guy Torry was pivotal in creating the first black comedy night in Hollywood at the World Famous Comedy Store. Bringing black industry together in one place at the same time was rare and led to a lot of collaboration in Hollywood back in the 90s. After a string of roles in several movies - kicked off by his start with his role in American History X - Guy continues to entertain live audiences across the country and he's now working on a documentary to capture that period of time when Phat Tuesdays was the hottest night for the black industry in Hollywood. Ep 94 - Author Paul Hunt

Our guest today is Paul Hunt, a guy who grew up in the same projects as me - Aliso Village in Boyle Heights. He was one of the few kids who dreamed of the world outside the projects and worked as hard as he could to get there. He recently wrote a book, "Project Theory" that describes our lives in these projects where there were about 10 gangs in a 2 square mile area, problems at home and at school, etc. Despite being a smart, athletically talented kid, his struggles are an example of what it's like to fight an uphill battle every day and still question if it's worth it.
